Whoever "gets" the vibe & idea of the record...

There's too many good AE's out there to 'blindly' pick a name for the sake of a name.

If 'ya do that your no better then an A&R mook!

This thread is a hoot!

At least a couple of the guys mentioned here are profoundly deaf!

A couple of the others have huge reputations, but reliable people I know whom have worked with them have mentioned some serious problems with their ability to hear obvious problems, (hint: one mentioned name played a track back in the studio and the artist mentioned it didn't sound right, he insisted it was no problem and just a mix issue, the assistant walked into the room and imediately noticed the SR's were switched out!)

People we really need to get a life! LMFAO!

However, we all lose the top end of our hearing as we get older so I wonder if his ears are still as golden as they once were. Maybe the incredible experience he has accumulated over his career would more than compensate.

What do you think his day rate would be?!

I think he's retired now and not available, period.

I wouldn't hire him for his ears, but for his suggestions on musical direction. His cd entitled "In My Life" was a perfect example of what I'm talking about. The man is a genius at production and arraingment.

Nigel Godrich, Tony Hoffer are probably my favorites of the moment. Of course so are the Lord Alge bros and Andy wallice.
How'bout guys like Swedien, Dowd, Tretow, Ohlsson?
Tough choice...

I assume that when you mention Dowd, you mean the late Tom Dowd? I had a chance to see the story of his life on tv. He was an amazing talent.......

For my band I'd love to get the Mitchell Froom/Tchad Blake/John Paterno team back together. Broadly speaking John Paterno consistantly turns out great sounding things no matter the style.

For other acts I might be involved with it would depend a lot on the style of music and goals of the record. If I was producing a really rocking but poppy/catchy thing I'd love TLA to mix. If it was more of a vintage sounding thing Glyn Johns. For straight up pop Bruce Swedien kills. Lets go crazy records are perfect for Dave Fridman. For a simple rock Brendan O'Brien is wonderful. And there tons of other cats too. Mitch Easter, Steve Albini, Sean Slade and Paul Koldeire, Rick Costly, William Wittman, and a ton of others would be so great to work with and learn from.
