Jim Scott, no question.

...but only, if he works really slow and I'm allowed to watch every step.

...which explains, why I shouldn't be producing nor playing nor singing on that album.

...maybe coffee boy.

T.L.A. has done a handful of really kickin mixes for me in the past...i'm always more than pleasantly surprised with his mix choices and sonic creativity!

Of course he has been a producer for what, three or four decades now. He is also a frigging amazing recording engineer who is totally dedicated to capturing fabulous sounds in a meticulous manner. Not that Phil would DO the job, but it's a fantasy job query, and the act I'm working with is old school R&B- one of Phil's specialties. His early work producing (and wearing many hats) was stellar. Personally, I think he'd do an amazing job capturing the band to tape with flair.

for my longhaired material, Jack Renner.
for my non-longhaired stuff, Ron Saint Germaine

...although I'd like to give Steven Taylor a shot too. I love the sounds he got on all the late-1970's Bruford projects recorded at Trident Studios, just not sure how well that would compliment the music I'm writing these days.

I second Calbi.

I worked with him @ Masterdisk and later @ Sterling.

He was a Sonic Solutions guy.

Good golfer too.

He used Brendan O'Brien for Blood Sugar Sex Magic but I think he rotates.

For me:

Tracking: Nigel Godrich
Mixing: Nigel Godrich
Mastering: Not sure - maybe Bob Ludwig or "Big Bass" Gardner or Grundman

So, I'd love him as a producer for my pop stuff with Elliot Scheiner as my tracking and mixing guy. For my jazz stuff, Al Schmitt. Mastering? Any of the top cats with ears and a light hand.

On the other hand, I'm such a narcissistic SOB that I would want to do it all myself! heh
