the $450 USD at vintagemicrophone.com buys you ONLY the body.
the "lollipop" capsule is another $250
and the bottle cap capsules start at $650 and a few are moreo than that.
i have the Red Type B body and a B7 capsule (U47-ish)
and i love it. Its tied with my AT4060 for being the favorite mic i own.
i use it on everything, FOK, Vox, Guitars... Never lets me down.
Folks always seem impressed with it too. For not only sound but looks.
I was told that the original stock Red Mic and its original capsule (which I guess is the lolipop) is essentially the same microphone as Blue's Bluebird, which for the money is one of my personal favorite mics. It sounds like what you think reality should sound like, yet it is not flat at all.
In retrospect however I wish I had the Red so I could have the option of future capsules.
I have the Red R6 capsules and an R4 omni pair on the way. These are the bottle capsules with a different connectors that can screw on to AKG 451's or in my case Innertube 450 Tube's. I like the R6 so far. I'm going to use them as drum overheads with the 450 tube's in a couple weeks and I'll report back on how they hold up.

thats exactly why i went with the Red.
I was looking at the Blue Mouse for a very long time, once i found out just how closely the Red Type B w/ B7 sounded to the Mouse, and that the Red combo was actually $100 cheaper... i knew it was the way to go.
