Beyerdynamic m160 care

Hi Guys

Just bought a Beyer M160 and Im very happy with it. However, the is very little in the manual in regards to care of the mic. I contacted Beyer but heard nothing back as of yet. Should I store it vertically or horizontally? What are the tests / cause of a loose ribbon etc. How much SPL can it take?

Regards
Gareth

Supposedly they're best stored with the two red dots pointing straight up and down. That way, the ribbon is vertical and can't sag under its own weight.
Kinda hard to make sure of in the soft pouch they come in, IMO...

I store mine in the pouches with mic clips on. The part of the clips that attaches to the stand are angled 90 degrees relative to the dots, making the red dots point straight up and down.

Does this mean if is vertical or the mic is horizontal pointing with dots correct angle?

Usual ribbon stuff - avoid puffs of air, phantom power can cause damage in some circumstances so always avoid it, store with the red dots pointing up & down and you should be fine. To be honest the ribbon is quite short so there's little chance of sag.

Absolutely superb mics - totally underrated
