Which breaks up better - 512c or Germanium?

Hey guys,

I'm going to be recording soon and am looking for a new piece of gear to add to my collection. We're going for a gritty, distorted rock aesthetic and I'm looking to get either an API 512c or Chandler Germanium or BOTH! heh

Which of these breaks up nicely when pushed hard to get a distorted sound while still sounding pleasant? think Strokes / Death from Above vocals or Libertines dirty rock sound.

I'd like to use it on vocals, acoustic / electric guitars .... I imagine both would sound awesome, but I haven't tried either or heard any samples with more edgy material recorded with them.

The only pre I own right now is the Chandler LTD-1 .. Thanks for your help.
