Here's my mic'ed up drum kit for last day session. Close mic on each cymbals with a mono-overhead. The set up is Beta52 and Røde K2 for the Kick, SM57 and 58 for the snare, CAD M179 on toms and hi-hat, Sontronics STC-1 on cymbals and CAD Trion 7000 as mono room mic (i changed it to a condenser later because the Trion wasn't bright enough).

So far I'd compare them to a classier version of NT5's, for what that's worth - def recommend them!
You should think them as wide cardiods

Hey, here is a clip of yesterday's tracking which I posted pictures of before.

I'm pretty new to it all and this is just a band project, but could I get some feedback as to how they sound? This is raw and unprocessed, I just did a quick adjustment of the levels and muted the HH and mono room track. Also, I initially had the bottom snare mic's polarity reversed but this actually sounded thinner than when it was not - is that very common?

Cheers and thanks a lot.. I have a lot of editing to look forward to now

hi Pan60, it's about 12 sq meters, in a non regular shape. About 3 meters high.
I also have a 20 sq meters room, where i cut some drums when not using the piano, plus a little soundlock.

regards

This is the setup I've been using lately. Typically only four or five mikes end up in the mix. I record everything because we need to nail a song every half hour and there's no time for getting "drum sounds" the way one would with a rock group. The smiling face is Ed Greene who you've heard on Barry White, Hall and Oates, Glenn Campbell, Marvin Gaye, Steely Dan and hundreds of other hit records.
