When do you use that tom to the left of the snare for mainly Don ?
As part of tom fills, where it fits in with the others, or for more specialized hits not necessarily combined with the other toms ?

Yes? All of the above? My left hand is a spaz, so sometimes it wants to lead on the hi-hat, play fills on the left, or break up fills with left hand accents. I've had a tom or floor tom on my left for over 20 years, so it just feels like part of a "normal" kit to me now.

Don

Nice work! I think you need one of our stereo couplers for your BM9s....

Stewart! I think more than that, I really just need to get a pair of your new mounts - I like the idea of keeping the mics separated for any kind of positioning I may need, but I could really use some proper mounts for them. I'll email!

very simple recording setup today for a modern song with a retro fat sound.

kick – violet design amethyst vintage > tlaudio 5051 comp + eq
snare – sm57 > aml1073 eq > stam adg76 comp
tom/ride – lrm2 > la610 comp + eq
kick beater – mje hulk > gap pre73 > klark teknik k76 all buttons

the kick beater mic is something i saw at one of the kush audio videos. he gets some amazing drums and showed a mic next to the kick meter. i tried it out of curiousity today and it sounds very interesting. all buttons in and the snare explodes!
and socks on the ludwig snare always work! hehehe!
kick sounds not to good, needs work ...

Kick (and kit all around) sound great! I used to do that beater thing with a Gefell UM70 years ago, not sure why I stopped doing it!

Yessir! I really need to build myself a 14x8 just like that one. There's just something about that size!

Beside bass drum and snare mics, two U87s are out in the room near ceiling (but not shown).
