Here's a simple set up with three mics. I was testing out a 26x10 kick drum I recently purchased (please excuse my drumming). Everything went into a Liquid 56 interface with the stock preamps.

Kick - MM Model 1
Mono Overhead - MM Model 2
Snare - 57

K-in - SM7b - BAE 1028
K-out - AEA a440 - BAE 1028
Sn-top - sm57 - BAE 1084
Sn-bot - km84i - BAE 1084
Toms - 421's - BAE 1073's
OH's - Dutch Audio CT12 - BAE 1073mpf

Bass DI - BAE 1073 - La2a

Rhythm Git - R92 - API312

Lead vox - Dutch - BAE 1028 - La2a
BGV's - 414xls - BAE 1073 - La2a

Keys - DI - BAE 1073

All other percussion - AEA R92 OH and KM84 spot - BAE 1073mpf - mohog

The tracking compression (where indicated) was mostly pretty light, no more than 1-2, maybe 3 db. Nevermind the mics in the video they are not always the same as the actual tracking mics.

The only EQ was high pass on the OH's and guitar.

Yesterday, we did a quick demo for Electro-Jazz trio "Mr. Vertigo". ("let's not go crazy, it's only Jazz after all")

OH, ride side: Coles 4038 -> Great River MP-500NV
OH, hats side: Royer R-121 -> Great River MP-500NV
bass drum: AKG D12 VR ("vintage" mode) -> API 512C
snare (hammered Ludwig Black Beauty 14"x 6.5"): Neumann KM 86 -> API 512C -> UA 1176LN , all buttons in
floor tom: Sennheiser MD 421 -> API 3124
rack tom: Revox M 3500 -> API 3124
center of kit: Microtech Gefell MV 692 w/ M69 omni cap -> Amek C.I.B., EQ'd & compressed to f*ck
room: EV 635a -> API 3214 -> API 2500 (both channels in series)

The Shure SM 57 over the bass drum was feeding the drummer's effects: a Boss digital delay, a Jomox T-Resonator, a laptop running Ableton Live for effects (controlled in real time via the Faderfox controller).
The effects signal was sent to its own PT input, as well as feeding a pair of active monitors in the live room (and so the other musicians could hear it and react to it).

There were 2 more mics:
bass/ Mark Bass 2x12": Sennheiser BF 541 -> Great River MP-500NV -> Distressor, opto mode
guitar/ Fender Deluxe Reverb reissue: Beyer M 160 -> Great River MP-500NV -> Distressor, tape mode

Came across a really nice snare to my collection, old Camco snare. Wonderful to play on and I took the opportunity to have it on my latest client (Nomy). I can send a pre mix on the drums that I made (it is still in the demo stage). U can almost treat Camco Snare as a tom with his 9 inches deep in the mix, insane snare drum

Top Snare: Shure Beta 56A and 57--> API 3124
Under Snare: Audix D1--> API 3124
Squeeze Mic: --> API 3124

Hahahahaaaa. No, the drummer put the banana there and I thought it would make a funny picture. Besides, it would never stay in place.

Recent Session

Recent experimental session. Really tried for new sounds this time. BIG kick and snare with more boom than attack.

28" 60's Ludwig Kick - Resonant: Bock 195 - Batter: Royer 121
14"x14" 60's Ludwig Snare - 57 + 451 on top - 441 on bottom
50's Gretsch Round Badge Toms - 421's on top - 57 or 421 on bottom
SM7 for hats
C12's + 4038 on Overheads
SF24 for rooms

Those drums sounded rather large.

Very smooth. No hyper-sheen gloss crap and just a very natural sound. Love 'em!

Here's a handful of stills cut from the (not yet released) video of Third Ion's Van Halien recording session which is the last track off 13/8bit. The album will be out in the spring.

Hope you guys dig! The kit is a Sonor S-Classix (8x7, 10x8, 12x9, 14x11, 16x13, 20x17.5 (x2) with a Beech Heavy SQ2 14x6 main snare and a Phil Rudd 14x5 Signature aux snare with an upside down hoop crasher)

Mics were : Royer R122 Matched Pair overheads, Royer R122V's around the perimeter for cymbals as well as a 12 Gauge Microphones Stereo down the centre, Sennheiser e604's on the toms, snares Audix i5 top, SM57 bottom, kicks Beta 91A's, Audio Technica AT4041's on main two pairs of hats, an MD421 on the big aux set of hats with all the holes in them, and an RE20 behind the baffles as a room.

...I'm pretty sure that's all of it haha!

Hey guys,

Just moved in to a new place a few weeks ago and finally gave it a run with drums.

Not too sure on the specifics of the kit as i am clearly not a drummer. (Audio examples will prove this ) All i know is that it is apparently an old 60's pearl kit that has had the shells cut to different sizes. I borrowed it from a friend.

Kick out - Telefunken AK47 - Avedis Ma5
Kick In - Audix D6 - CAP VP26
Snare - 57 - CAPI VP26
OH's - Oktava Mk012 - Apollo API Vision Channel strip
Rack - CAD m179 - Apollo API Vision Channel strip
Floor - AKG 414b-uls - Apollo API Vision Channel strip
Hats - SM7b - CAPI VP26
Room - Cascade Fathead II - UA 710

Please excuse the drumming (i'm a guitarist)
