De Medio Preamp

Any of you try the De Medio DME103? http://demedioengineering.com/

I'm very curious.

Nope, haven't tried it. I've been thinking about it lately though. This is one preamp that we never talk about on Gearslutz, and Frank De Medio has an excellent reputation for building great sounding stuff.

Honestly I've thought of approaching them as a dealer to see if I could help them sell some. If the preamp is as good as I think it is, a little publicity here on Gearslutz might be a good thing.

If it sounds anything like the custom De medio console at Sunset sound thumbsup
I'd be curious if its a similar design as his old stuff.

I have a client who is good friends with Mr de Medio and apparently he loathes Pro Tools and digital in general. The thing that worries me is that...he is designing a really transparent clean pre that is great for anaolg recording. Clean and transparent aren't exactly what I lust after in preamps when recording to PT. Then again maybe this pre would change my mind in that regard. Nonetheless, I became a fan of Frank de Medio after working on his custom console at Sunset Sound. I'm gonna find out if I can demo one of these bad boys heh

From what I've read, the De Medio DME 103 Mic Pre is Class A Discrete w/ Jensen transformers. I think it has xformers on both the input and output, but I could be wrong. Jensen builds a clean transformer, but I doubt this preamp sounds clinical or sterile.

It has a Jensen xformer on the input only..electronically balanced output..

Yes, I've used it and liked it a lot. Clean and transparent but not clinical sounding. Definitely a contender.

I'm mixing a record that was tracked on that console. I think in either the A or C room.

The drums sound quite good.

Great sounding Preamp. Wide and deep. Very sweet high end. A simple, no frills box that just makes everything passing through it sound "right". A whole console of these things would make anyone smile!

Are these still in production? The site is still up/active, but there isn't much by way of details on there.
