In search of a cool spectrum analyzer hardware.

What are some good looking and performing frequency spectrum analyzers. I'm looking for something modern to add to the mixing vibe. I'm only interested in hardware.

I had one back in the mid 1980's. It's made by Klark-Technique and is a 30 band display. It was handy to see if the track was "full", but after a year or so I never used it, your ears will tell you the same thing.

Look for one of those if you need it. It's a 2 RU box.

I have a Klark Teknik DN60 that's still going strong here. Unlike Jim, I do find it useful to have around.

Depending on your definition of 'modern', I guess the DN60 may or may not qualify.

What about this? It's hard to find reasonably priced hardware units.

this is hardware

It's Mackie... Can you live with that? It does look cool in the dark, and if you only use it as an analyzer you won't actually have to pass audio through it.

not sure what your price range is, these can be pretty pricey.

I have the MSD600M++ which has 1/3 octave, fft, and tons of configurable ballistics... its pretty awesome. looks like a modern equivalent of the SSL phase meter.

On a budget, the Klark Teknik DN60/6000 are decent and useful boxes, though.
