Another enthusiastic vote for the Valvet X -- a truly stunning and detailed mic. Very much has that "larger than life" sound without being overhyped in the least. It's not as "covered" as some other $$$ vintage or vintage-style mics out there, which may or may or may not be your thing, but the high end is luscious and subtle instead of overhyped like many other modern tube mics.

I've had a chance to use the Manley Cardioid a few times, and always enjoy it, too. But the Valvet X has a little more mojo of some sort, so that's my choice.

both

I do have both and love them both. The Manley (despite some opinions) in MY opinion (over 15 years) is smooth and classic sounding. Very versatile.
The VMA is a a more modern, forward imaged mic. Also excellent, especially for vocalists with a dark sound in a modern environment.

Can't lose.
