for M 149 mic > Brent Averill 1073 OR Great River MEQ-1NV pre/eq?!

it's obvious that the microphone I have is very clean and neutral. But, I need a richer and more coloured sound for the voices I record (mostly my voice...)
I love that Robbie Williams and James Blunt, or George Michael sound... I record POP music.
The entire configuration will be:
- M 149
- Breant Averill 1073 (1084) OR Great River MEQ-1NV OR Portico 5032
- Crane Song Trakker
- Aurora 16 with AES 16
- Folcrom passive analog summing with 2 good pres to raise its gain with 30 db
- for Folcrom I've thought at the beginning to API 512c, but the sound of Portico 5012 seemed to me more round, musical, fat, open and very shyny at the same time (I'VE LISTENED TO THAT ON THELISTENINGSESSIONS.COM -no direct approuch...). The API seemed to me more rough, mid freq too loud and not so subtle...Just my oppinion.
- RMS 755 Super Stereo Comp (is a very noticeable difference between this 755 and it's richer brothers Alan Smart C2 or SSL G series?!)

So, for this intentions of mine, WHAT PRE/EQ will fitt better?

I must make the purchase very soon, almost blindly...(without the internet site it would've been really blind at all...)

Thank you, guys!

I've thought about that too...
Brauner VM-1.
But I'd like to keep my current mic and add the Brauner next year to an existing great setup!

I don't know about the other pres, but I've used the M149 many times with the Great River. It's a very good fit.

When using the M149 how much gain did you use on the pre and did you use an inline pad?

Inline pad so I can drive the pre...

As of lately I have discovered what a great combo the M149 is with the 512C on vocals (for a modern kinda sound...not ultra clean). Beats my Neves 90% of the time.

I have an m149 and an Aurora GTQ2 that I've used for vocals and acoustic guitar, and for that application it's an awesome combination. It sounds huge.

I don't remember needing to use an inline pad, but I can understand there may be times you'd have to.

Doug Fearn made me a custom pad to properly match the M149s impedance for optimal use with his preamp. Maybe Dan Kennedy would do the same for the MP-NV.

I run the 149 into a tube limiter, no pre. 1073 / 149 combo was sterile to my ears.

Had a GR NV and have a API. Both are different. A API is a good choice. Maybe pad the outs of the API as well so you can drive it. I normally run it through a Neve 2254 for color as well if I want color.

I remember seeing a doco on Robbie Williams and he had a M149. Here is a article from sound on sound.

The M149 gets a bit of flack, I do not think its a bad mic. Its just not rich with charatcer of a U47 or a U67 etc. Its just honest.
