For a long time I never compressed electric guitars...until I had a few very good session players ask me for compression in specific situations. Now I've got another trick in my bag. Side note: I've learned a lot of cool recording tips from players.

1176 can be great in a lot of different situations but it's especially great for that British semi-clean obviously compressed sound.

API 225 (haven't tried the 525) for an all around great electric guitar compressor. I have one player who swears he's going to get someone to build him that circuit in a pedal he likes it so much.

Guitar compress with MC77

I like Purple MC77 and use it extensively. It is much more...

The 225L is one of my fav's, too. Have 4 of 'em in a 200H rack. Very versatile in that configuration.

Electric guitars need compressions a lot of times. Because not is all time playing at the maximum level.
There are ways to play a very dinamic electric guitar.
Then I love 1176 style compressors.

Here there is a pair of dinamic electric guitars in a rock song. I put the compressors that I used in that mix.

Interpretacion vs automatizacion - YouTube

Se tiende a automatizar en vez de a realizar una buena toma. La interpretación del músico es fundamental. Es lo más importante en la música.

I think the distressor or API 2500 would be great to compress guitars.

I send my electrics to an original metal knob Neve 33609 and also to another buss with Urei LA-3A's. That combo kills.

I think what i want from a compressor for electric guitars is the harmonic
distortion, what is missing from guitar recordings today is the sound we got from tape. That is what a disressor can do
and the germanium compressor for guitars,

I like what the medium thrust on the 2500 does to walls of guitar.

Compressors do more than control dynamic range. They also change the tone and transient envelope.

For thick, ropey leads I like LA-3A. For in-your-face bright tones with harmonic distortion I like Blue Stripe. Especially the tone of the originals and the UA 175 which has a similar sound.

For busses I like the SSL sound, but I bet API 2500 kicks ass too.

I'd like to try an Elysia Nvelope as well...

sure.
I don't like them nearly as much as the 176

which, by the way, sounds NOTHING like an 1176 (which I don't like at all)

+1 for the 525 on guitars. Also, PBC6A's are great.
