Quite the Random Question... Dynamics Processors (HW)

Quite the Random Question...

So I have a question to all of you in the high end sector....

Let me give you a quick question, if you were only allowed One preamp, One compressor, One EQ, etc... (this applies to computers and any other outboard gear), however a microphone locker that has all the microphones you could ever use or desire, what would the pre,eq,compressor, or other pieces of equipment be?

There is no budget, just simplicity. One piece of each gear to get the job done, that would satisfy you and others who you record ... Like mentioned above, you have any microphone at your disposal, but what do you choose as your only outboard gear?

Please have some fun with this...
heh

Only one?
If I look at versatility I'd go with the SH Monogama for the pre,
is like cheating, you get three different pres and they're all amazing.
for the compressor, Distressor is still the most versatile compressor ever for me,
can't beat it for that, only thing is that is mono.. maybe an API 2500 would be a better choice.
And as for the eq, this is probably the hardest choice..
Most likely an API 5500, you get the API sound and the half/1/2 db steps

That's easy: any very high quality gear would do. It's just tools.

Very True, however what would you choose, if you had to only have one.

Aside from the whole VK catalog? kiddin'..

Well, the scenario "only one for each piece" gets that list for versatility, but overall I'm among the ones that - given the chance - I'd cover the "classics" first, 512c, a pair of '76s, at least an LA2A, pair of Pultec style eqs, and a 2bus compressor which in my case would be a SHMC, I consider this one a new classic

Peach, Fink, HCL, Crane Song, Retro, Manley, Fearn, blah ... really, when the quality's up there I don't give a toss. Just blow 20k on a pre/eq/comp and you're there. You may get by with less, but I just get stuff that fits the color scheme of my room. No, kidding aside. The stepping stones to a good recording are found elsewhere, even if some topnotch gear makes life so much easier.
Can I record Beth Sorrentino, now?

I would go for clean musical, it's the most versatile setup i think

something like a Martech MSS-10 pre, a GML 9500 eq and a GML 2030 comp. If the music/instruments/room/players are good that i record, it should fit it all...
