HD Omni Vs HD IO Audio Interfaces

Grayson,

I agree with many of your points.
New necessarily is not better and it´s allways important to keep one´s own perspective
regardless what others say.

In this very special case I must say the avid engineers did a brilliant job
making their new product A LOT better than the old one.
In fact it is so much better that I even sold my trusty (8k) Prism ADA 8 XR,
which has been the king of conversion by far for years .

Back on topic.

IMO the omni would make very much sense as a mobile
interface á la ULN 8 / prism orpheus competitor.

I only can speculate why they did not implement firewire.
Let´s hope we will see a lightpeak to digilink 2 converter box soon...

Anyone knows more about that "REMOTE" port on the backside ?
Maybe they will release an external monitor remote control unit ?

Probably to make $3000 dollars more for the Native Card.

The guy who thinks the 192 is better must have been listening to some seriously compromised material.

We had 2 seperate rigs, one with prism ada's and 192s and one with the HD omni.

The prism sounded better than the 192 by a large amount, and the omni sounded a bit better to my ear than the prism

Omni is a great unit, they just blew it by not having a remote for it. You have to have it right next you, complete with fan. Not good thinkin'

I haven't heard my Omni's fan at all, about 3 feet from me, in a rack. Did I get lucky?

If yours is recent, I believe they fixed it, the early ones seemed to have problems until a firmware upgrade.

Would like to know more about these, the SQ of playback between HD and Omni, first hand experience. Anyone?
