the photos are ok, but not great. none of the control room.

i just cant stop listening to the old elton john records that were done there.
Madman Across the Water and Tumbleweed Connection just sound amazing.

I'm with you. The recordings that Robin Geoffrey Cable did were the best sounding stuff to come out of trident in that era (early 70's), in my opinion. Tumbleweed Connection is sonically mind blowing to me!
From what I've read over the years some of the gear they had at that time was:

Sound Techniques console
Studer 8 /16 track with Dolby A301 s/n stretchers
2 EMT plates
Allison Kepex and Gain Brains

I've always felt that those early dolby units played a somewhat big part in the sound of alot of those Trident records. It's almost like they aren't tracking perfectly but in a really cool sounding way. I could be wrong though...?

I have a few clear shots of the control room from the mid- late seventies with the big A range. I'll dig them up.

great replies folks.

i think they also used LA 2A's quite a bit at trident in the early 70's and also a lot of neumann U 67's.
i would be shocked if the vocal mic on Tumbleweed wasnt a U 67, although i am not totally sure.

anyway, lets see some pics and keep the information flowing.

i love these history lessons.

i have 2 mic pre EQ's and a mic pre IV.
i track most everything through them and an aurora gtq2 (which i just love on vocals).
the dakings sound as good as any pre amp i have ever used and since getting them i havent wanted for anything more.

they are also amazing mix tools as the EQ is superb and the line amps sound lovely when driven.

i have never used trident A range stuff so i cant compare directly, but i really dont care either way cause the dakings sound so good i wouldnt change a thing. i am told they are in the same ballpark as the A range by folks who have used both and as i understand daking bought the A range schematic and used it in his design.

no, it's more like the sound of the highs not being as expanded as much in decode as they were compressed in the encoding. You can hear it in the cymbals and the vocals, especially in the esses.

GREAT shots.
they are obviously from 2 different time periods as the outboard above the console is much more extensive in the 2nd shot and much of the stuff over the console in the first pic has been moved to the side in pic 2.

when were these taken?

thanks so much.

I think these were taken at the same time. One is of the Studio A control room, the other is of the studio B control room. I have no idea who took these, I found them on a forum about 7 years ago.

oh really.
which is which A and B?

looks like the one on the left is connected to the main tracking room.
consoles look fairly similar.

one looks more like a mix room and the other a tracking room.

the vibe is exquisite.
