Are the Preamps of my Ensemble damaged ?

Hey everybody,

since a while I have trouble with my apogee ensemble.
It seems like the preamps of it are damaged... I dont know

Anyway it make some noise although everyone say they are very cleary with less noise in it.

I have made an Soundexample coz words won't do it.

First I plugged a Machinedrum into the two line-in's on the front of the unit but I turned the Master Volume of the Machinedrum down.
Then I recorded in Logic Pro. While I was recording I tunrned up the gain of the preamps. And you will hear what noise it made.
Then I turned the preamps down, tunrned up the master volume of the Machinedrum and you will hear it.
But the signal is very noisy, like a white noise in the background, don't you think so?
What the heck is going on with my Ensemble?

Here is an direct link to the soundsample.. you do NOT need to download!

First thing that comes to mind without even listening to the files is that if you're using inputs 1-4 as line level inputs, you should have then switched to line level in the control panel, which will disable the gain control, if I'm not mistaken. You control the volume from the device at that point. Perhaps using the mic input with the gain control is just raising the noise floor too high?

Just a quick thought as I'm not in front of mine at the moment.

Good luck-

Yes I can do it like you told me but then its too quiet.

But anyway, if no Singnal is going through the preamps and I turn them up to 50 dB or so they are noise as hell. This is not usual, isn't it ?
