Mixing to tape: do I need a tape sim box?

A colleague of mine is suggesting I get a Fatso/5042/anamod/etc. I don't see the point when I've got the real thing. Am I missing something here?

If you've got a good tape machine and like the process of using it, you absolutely do NOT need an emulator.

I do enjoy my machine, and I do like how it sounds. But I am being told that one of these boxes will sound better than my tape deck, because its a "prosumer" grade Tascam 52.
