CCIR + NAB test tapes..

I just read a post which said that the tones on a 30ips NAB callibration tape are the same as those used to calibrate a machine for CCIR at 15ips. Can anyone confirm this to be the case? Can it be, I was under the impression that 30ips NAB and CCIR was a unified standard?

You can use different tapes for different standards BUT you need to make adjustments to line up to compensate. MRL should be able o provide you with a conversion chart.

Or you can go to their website:

Table 5-1 For any Calibration Tape and any Desired Playback
among the following three speeds and equalizations,
there is NO correction required: the response is flat. You can play any
of these Calibration Tapes at any of these speeds, set the reproducer
equalizers for flat response, and have a correct calibration.

This is great, I read that same paragraph in my manual for the 30ips MRL AES tape I have. I read it about 10 times and somehow didn't understand, but now the penny has dropped :

As it says, anyone with ANY of those tapes can play it back it ANY of those speeds and the frequency curves translate correctly.

So I can use my 30 ips AES tape for calibrating the 15ips playback for CCIR in my Lyrec as well as the 30 ips AES without any conversion or changes !!

Woohoo!
