XLR vs. D-Sub Quality?

Pro's,

Have any of you notice better quality in your signals going in, out of gear with XLR connectors vs. D-Sub connectors, the wire/cable gauge being the same?

My mic to mic pre part of the patchbay is XLR.

Not really. When given a choice between XLR or TRS I'll go with XLR's every time because there's more surface contact area. But, overall I worry about bigger things like if the clients are happy and the bills are paid.

I don't worry at all, since all of the connections in and out of my console except the inputs to the on board preamps are made with D-Subs. That includes all of the harnesses to the patch bay.

no worries here either .... everything on the patch is TRS .... even the mic to mic pre connections.

PT interfaces hook up with D-subs .... to the patchbays TRS.

The only XLR's used are for AES connections and the mic plugs in the recording room.
