laChapell 583s
We still loving these? I am thinking of picking one up for cutting vocals primarily...most used mic being an SM7 or 414.. I see lots of these in he classifieds..whats the word?

Love ours. Funny you should mention the SM7, because SM7 through 583s is becoming one of our go to vocal chains. Not huge, just detailed, crystal clear and sits beautifully in the mix.

thumbsupthumbsup for the LaChapell 583s. I sold mine recently to buy a LaChapell 583E!

The preamp is truly awesome in every way. Detailed and clean and clear with just a touch of mojo goodness. Love it.

Plus, Scott LaChapell is unparalleled in this industry with regard to customer service.

"Pheel" would ya be kind enough as of explaining me why you've changed to the EQ version? I just love my 583s and I've always wanted to try de 583e, I would love to read a comparisson bt them...

I agree with you, LaChapell is a great company !

I spent a month with a LaChapell 583E (which is the same pre amp) for a review I was doing for my show. Its a really outstanding mic pre that I was very sad to send back!!!! Killer sound with a really wide tonal range for the gain controls.

I picked up a pair of 583's earlier this year (with a pair of MA5's). The 583's are pretty much my go-to choice for vocals, acoustic guitar and piano. Haven't tried them on much else yet, but they are very nice sounding and extremely flexible. And yeah, you can't beat Scott's personalized service and attention.thumbsup

Excellent pre...I have two and use them on just about anything. excels on acoustic and drum OH.

pick one up used if you see a good price. Excellent customer service too.

I changed to the EQ version, well, for the EQ...

Seriously though, the preamp section of the 583S and 583E are identical. I had so much faith in Scott's designs that I wanted the EQ even before I had ever heard it. The EQ is very clean - just plain good sounding. Perfect for when you want to EQ a source without it sounding EQ'd. thumbsup

I love my 583s's and my 583e's. The EQ's are amazing for tracking- gentle, clean and clear.

And bump yet again for customer service, Scott's a great guy and a tremendous talent.

Now if he'd just start to build a small console.............. : )

I love the 583 for vocals! Holy crap...paired with an sm7 and a vintage 1176 I was totally inspired!
