mix n match portico's

I posted a thread before on what pre to get and i was set on getting a 1073dpa but I've decided to go with the new RND Portico.

I need TWO channels of mic pres so heres my choices

- get a 5012 and a 5043 (send signal from 5012 to 5043 when tracking)

or

- get two 5015's

I wish I could get two of the new Portico II's, but that would rape my pocket.

Whats the pros and cons of the two choices?

There's not a lot to choose between those two options sonically, as they use identical pre and compressor circuits. The differences are to do with layout and price (it appears that a 5012/5043 combo is likely to work out marginally cheaper than a pair of 5015s).

Depending how you intend to rack (or otherwise house) the units and how you prefer to work, choose the panel layout you think will work best for you.

Given the bus options on the Portico units, I believe the outcome would be the same
with these two setups. However, if you expand to where you want to patch different
compressors and pres together, the 5012/5043 option might be simpler.

I often end up using my Portico pieces on different busses when mixing - in this instance,
suspect the individual units may prove easier than the combo units - but again,
likely just the degree of ease of use - not something that can't be done.
