Which converters do you use and swear by in your studio? Please vote on the poll and lets us all find out what are the most used 8/16 channel converters in the GS community.

I only selected 8 or 16 channel converters for this poll.

I have all apogee's but i wouldnt swear by them. I rent 2 Channel Prism convertors when i'm mixing in the city and they smoke the apogee's, tho i do think the apogees sound really good. you get what you pay for, and i havent mustered the ability to pay that much money for 2 channels of conversion.

wow, Aurora lynx is taking the lead...I guess because its the best deal out there price $$ wise. Do you think the Lynx Aurora sounds better than a Prism? Or SSL?

From what I was told, not so, but it does the job in pro audio.

Apogee AD16X-DA16X.
Not the ultimate solution but pretty "standard good".

I like the Aurora over the SSL but they do play on a similar field.

As far as the Prism vs. Lynx conversation I can tell you from firsthand experience that I found the Prism conversion to be excellent to the point of detrimental. What I mean by this is I had a very difficult time getting mixes to gel properly when using an ADA8. I loved the clean and clear conversion but I believe it to be better suited to classical music and/or historical archiving. The Lynx Aurora provides the same stereo imaging and 3-dimensional depth of space with all the details, yet does so without being clinical and somehow retains the musicality. That's why I own two Aurora16s and use them every day in the studio.

To be honest, using the Auroras has nothing to do with price. I had a Prism ADA8, then I had the Apogee 16X series (A/D and D/A) with a Big Ben, now I have two Aurora16s and couldn't be happier. I've actually stopped thinking about conversion and know that I can trust the Auroras to any session I work on. It just so happens that the Auroras are also the least expensive of the bunch, which is always nice to spend a little less on one thing so you can have two!

SSL Alpha Link MADI, to me needing anything else in a 24 i/o setup is picking nits. They are clean, detailed and natural sounding and are likely the best deal in DAW setups today.

Awesome sound, silly price.

Lynx Auroa 16+LTHD card is a great deal for us PTHD users. I find the Lynx conversion clear and detailed, no mid boost.

Lavry and aurora 16 here. Lynx is amazing depth and detail clarity. Had apogee sold it, it had pretty good detail but I really hated the color they imparted.

Lynx Aurora 8+ AES 16, 3 years running....lots folks brought others by, but I'll stick with Lynx...they are very good about updating Firmware, Software, and excellent drivers for all the new O/S' and Multi-Core/High RAM counts. Also, their Forums are just great for replying fairly quickly, and working with you, helping you, pretty much until a problem is solved. Also good at listening and incorporating what we want :-) Dig em!
