Talking ONLY 1/2" inches. And only to print stereo mixes.
What reference level are you usually using ? +6? +9?
Can you describe the "SOUND" difference between the different brand ?

RMGI ? ATR ?

Thanks everyone !!!

to me the atr is brighter.
best to buy as many different reels
as you can and listen
my machine is set up for + 9
and i print things so they barely cross
the 0 mark - mostly - 10
i like the transients and air above
you must experiment
and find what sounds right

be well

RMG SM900 is clearly the best current tape.

SM468 is also a good tape but a much older formulation with more grainy background sound and more hiss. SM900 is offering a "velvety quiet" background sound.

We run the #900 tape at +9 (510 nWb/m) and strictly adhere to 0VU.

Quality is very good, consistency is outstanding and smooth running is valued here.

That said, 95% of the sound is made by the tape machine, not the tape.

You have to adjust your machine carefully to match the reels you are running.
MRL test tapes are available and I advise to buy a new one if you do not have one in house.
