Neve 1073 conundrum

I've got to make a choice between getting a racked pair of 1073's or getting a 1073 DPA and another outboard eq. Right now I don't own any outboard eq's. So sluts with $8000 grand what do you do?

First of all do you need 2 mic pres or do you just need the EQ?

With $8,000,000 you could buy a lot of 1073's.

Where?

An AMS Neve 1073 reissue is $3K.

A 1084 is $3.5k.

With a 2 channel rack its around $7K-$8K.

My take on Riad's comment:

First, note he's not saying '8,000'--he's saying '8,000,000'.

I believe he's referencing the original poster's '8,000 grand'.

Hence the 'hidey-guy'!

And now...back to the thread....

Have you considered any of the clones?

Send In The Clones

Does it sound rich?
Do you need a pair?
Will they be properly ground
You EQ "air"
Send in the clones

Isn't it bliss?
Does Geoff T approve?
One who has detented pots
One who likes them smooth
Where are the clones?
Send in the clones

I don't need the pre's (I'm a slut). I already have some api's and a lunchbox but I want to be in the 1073 club and I don't want to continue to rent. I considered the clones and have decided against them if for no other reason than the high resale value of the Neves and my low sluttiness resistence coefficient.

I have the AMS-Neve 1073 DPD, and I have to say it sounds amazing. As for the resale vaue? I've seen no indication that the AMS-Neve's lose their value faster than other high end gear.

Why not consider the 1081 - get some EQ as well?

After seeing what peolple were paying last week for old 1073's on eBay. I would rather have a 1081 re-issue.

I do have to comment on this. I read it on my cellphone driving up Laurel Cyn and nearly crashed because I was so amused.

If i were you and i needed EQ's i would do:

1) 1 1073 in a single space rack-$3250

2) 1 used Massive Passive EQ-$3K

3) 1 used or new Great River NVEQ2-$2k-2.5K

Total between -$8K-$8.5K

That's a lot of EQ power right there.

With your API EQ's you should be able to handle just about any task.

Now lets get to your compressor collection.

Thanks, T R S...make me feel like a dork. Well, that Neve pre I'm getting (SN 6133) is my future son's college fund, considering how quickly they're going up in value these days...

Massivo sounds nice but I didn't know that Neve sold a 1073 reissuse already racked. All the ones I've seen were custom racked. BAE Avedis? Haven't heard it yet.

They don't.

You can get someone to rack mount it for you.

I don't know whether to say thanks or tell you to pay attention to those bumper stickers that say "Hang up and drive".

Let's be careful out there.

Get the pair, they will go a long way. Use them on subgroups for mixing to get the sound of your two channels across more instruments.

Make sure you buy properly maintained units in good condition. There are a lot that have been butchered.

If your looking for an EQ, I've got a Great River EQ-2NV, that I'm thinking about selling.
