Everything they make is just so incredible sounding (and looking). There's no way this isn't going to be killer. My bank account is telling me to take a roofie and forget I ever saw this thread.

If this is priced right, it's going to destroy the 'authentic' pultec copy that some other guy's taking forever to release.
I'm basing this assumption on Retro's reputation though. It's got to be good.

If they get 85-90% there soundwise , they wont be able to make enough of these. Looks the business. thumbsup

I dunno ... I already get at least 95% there soundwise with a Manley Stereo Pultec EQP-1A.

If these only get 85-90% there, they won't be so interesting. Now 99.5% would be another matter!

at this point i don't care if it nails a Pultec.I've got that covered
I want it to sound good on its own merits..
much like the 176 being inspired by the old 175,yet taking it a step further imo.

I hear ya.

But it wouldn't do any harm for it to borrow some of the mojo of the originals either...

Let us know what you think once you've had a bit of time with it!

well everything is always subjective, especially numbers (can be used for anyones point) but for me, a really good representation of a sound is 90% ...100% being an impossibility. 95% IMo would be damn near close with slight discrepancies. 96-99% would be tinkering to really try to nail it. Even at 90% (imparting its own sound as RoundBadge suggested) would be killer considering its a Stereo pair! in one rack!! heh

OMG, this is like a dream come true...I just need to be able to afford it when it comes out. Wow, stereo guitars have to sound amazing. Get ready for some new guitar sounds on records guys!! I know guys that own 2 Pulteqs but they have a hard time getting the left and right to sound the same when tweaking guitars panned L/R. I love the sound of just the Pulteq UAD plug-in on guitars, I can't even imagine what Retro has done with it. I'm sure it's one of those cases where just running signal through it provides sonic advantages. Please, please get back to us with results!!

Hi Jay,
Yes, it's subjective, but from your description I think we're broadly in agreement about the numbers and what they mean.

From my POV, the Manley I mentioned does better than 90% and nails some of its own sound with the remainder - and it's a stereo pair in 2U format. So I was just wondering if the Retro piece goes further, or if it is similar (just another flavor - not that there's anything wrong with flavors...).

i liked the Manley when putting in through its paces, but have never owned one. So a long term opinion im sad to say i dont have. But it was definitely within the realm and did do its own thing and can agree with you there...

i share the same wonder and one can only hope...but Retro definitely do their part on the tinkering bit. Will definitely sell a bunch.

cheers
