Which finish do you guys have?
Attila told me he offers a painted finish that is 1K cheaper for the 2.1 system but I haven't seen it yet.
I really like the natural wood finish but for the price difference I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I have seen them in both variations with my own eye.

If you can - go for the wood finish.
It looks great... the feeling is also outstanding, I find myself touching the surround speakers from time to time ;-)

If money is an issue I´d take a black, painted sub with wooden tops.
If money is a serious issue, I´d take the set in black.
They look very nice, too. Just a little unobtrusive.

1k difference is quite much considering you will use the speakers at home mostly and don´t have to impress many others than yourself...
if this is money i would otherwise spend on room treatment i would be very sure how to use it.
i have the walnut finish but never really decided about it as it was the one readily available at the time.

best, johannes

His paint job are really HQ as well. It just doesn't match the great looks of the wooden finish, but it is not a must have in my opinion.

I have some special dark wood finish nonetheless.

Yeah I really like the natural wood finish. The contrast with the black speaker looks great.
I might get these but with the painted seismo as suggested to save some money.

I'm still waiting to see pictures if the structure paint finish.
After that I'll order my system, should be ready for 2015.

These look great!
Is it the "structure paint" finish? There seems to be two different type of paint, the one shown on united-minorities website and one not shown that uses structure paint and that is 1K cheaper. It's supposed to have larger grain in it.
Also are they black or dark grey?

Thanks for the pictures.

i bought an old but (apparently) functional Quad 306 for the Ginkos.
the amp came today.

wow
it was very exciting listening to ginkos for the first time beside PSI 21 and Abacus C-Box2.
of course, the ginkos killed the abacus in 2 seconds.
the resolution is amazing! i think with a better amp they would still be better.

mids are AMAZING!
upper bass could be a little tighter (amp?)
highs are correct. but i think the transient response could be just a little faster (amp again?)
i will check other amps like abacus 60-120c soon.

i changed the wires and now am using a self made xlr to rca cable for connecting the dac to the amp.
also changed the place of Ginkos:
now they have 110cm meter distance to each other and ca 105cm to me.
everything changed.
they have very very narrow horizontal and vertical sweet spot.
The sweet spot is really like a spot!
when i move my head slightly up/down or left/right,
i can't hear some details.
but when i am in the sweet spot, i hear things that I've never heard even on psi 21 !
these are fantastic. even with a moderate amp like this very old Quad 306.

I had a a chance to mix on an old set of original Auratone (not avantone) this week and I gotta say I was impressed.

Every balance issue was so clearly audible, balancing a mix had never been so easy for me.

Did anybody have a chance to compare the Auratone to the Ginkos?
I'm sure the Ginkos are more detailed but how easy is it to make good balance with them?

With the Auratone any balance issue was so apparent I couldn't believe how easy it was to spot the problems and fix them.

I already placed an order for a set of Ginkos and seismo but this made me doubt. The Auratone are reissued now for 1/10 the price of the Ginkos...

i've auditioned the avantones. yes you can balance the mix relatively easily, but there is not enough resolution at all!
you miss many details in the mix. for this purpose (just balancing the mix) i used the Abacus C2.
Now I dont need them anymore.

with the ginko you can do balancing easily AND there is a lot of resolution, details that you will enjoy.

the imaging is great.
even when i listen to Wagner's big orchestra (Parsifal - Bayreut - James Levine),
i can "see" the instruments in the big room (in a smaller size), the double basses
behind, right side.. the wind instruments etc.
very precise! (PSI like) lovely.

Nice, I'm really eager to start working on mine.
I was reference to the old Auratone though, not the new avantone. They are different, the avantone aren't as good IMO.

Amp change for UM Ginko:

i changed from Quad 306 to the new Abacus 60-120D (Dolifet).
sound is more focused on upper bass.
more true highs.
midrange is very good. (quads mids were very good too).
rooms are deeper now.
but unfortunately there is buzz from the right speaker.
so i sent the device back. (the guys in abacus are not very friendly!)

then i bought the hypex ncore (nc400).
the sound is even better.
i love the highs.
midrange has better resolution.
i am hearing things that i've only heard in much more expensive systems like strauss nf3 in an acoustically well treated room.
