The U5 is one very good flavour amongst other very good flavours. It's certainly a quality piece and may or may not be what you want -(you need to try it).
As a point of comparison, I also a have a GR pre I use for it's DI and they are both quality sounds just different.
Cheers, Ross

Nathan East uses a U5 a lot in his session work from Phil Collins, Eric Clapton to Fourplay. I personally think it's one of the best clean detailed sounds for bass. But everyone has their own taste.

funny i think exactly the opposite. U5 to me have more character than JDI all year long. JDI is clean and sterile to my ears. not in a bad way tho.

U5-i wouldnt describe as sterile at all. Its very faithful but really adds depth and weight to anything run through it. Its a big sounding di.

I use the U5 on every bass I record and absolutely love it and so do the players.

I have not used it a lot, but my bass player has a U5 and I have been using that recently for direct bass into an ma5 and drawmer 1968 and it's been sounding awesome.

I most likely would not buy one though. I may just go w/a Radial. I also think the Reddi is awesome.

I've always found the U5 to be a great DI for bass.

I feel like good gear often has less knobs and switches..... However in this case I like the Sans Amp Bass Driver.

It sounds good...and you have the option of an EQ and some other extra knobs to tweak your sound.... definitely helps getting a good sound going in.
