My VariMu is a speaker...am I crazy ?

Hi,

While I was mastering today through my Vari Mu I noticed very quiet music coming from my Vari Mu while I muted my speakers.....

I´m 100 % sure it comes from the Vari Mu since I doublechecked my speakers and headphones and switched them all off, still music from my Vari Mu.....

What the hell.............................?

Wouldn't be the first time I'd heard microphonic tubes "singing" in an amplifier...

Might be the first time I heard about a Vari-Mu doing it though...

LOL ! heh

I remember hearing this as well when I was hooking up the Vari Mu to something that wouldn`t accept it`s signal for some reason. (don`t ask. it was something stupid I did.) I heard something and than realized it wasn`t coiming from the speakers it was coming from the MU itself !

Noticed that also. Tried that with my MP too, but I couldn´t hear anything (even when boosting signal significantly). If you know about it, that´s no problem IMO.

The Mu is the only Manley making noise since I had the Massive, Slam ! & Mu in a chain and the noises definetly came only from the Mu

It sounds if a little guy would sit inside with mouse headphones on volume 100

Could it be that one of the tubes is broken ?

I hope not. In that case my tube would probably be broken, too

Change the tubes. Are these how old? Examine the PSU, Elkos can drain particularly with the Manley.
Exchanges these and make in each case 2 instead of one to - Doubled capacity.

Sounds better and hums less. Pay attention to the grounding and like the equipment is attached, otherwise you have medium waves (radio) receipt. Also firmly pull tight all grounding screw.

If you willlst can I you a few Suprem tube absorber give protects.

GYang - It's just that I just got the Vari-mu a few weeks ago,
and I haven't been able to dial it in yet.

Shaman - Thank you for the answer.

shaman,
i will help you out with that little voices inside your ...er ... mu . i turn over an old rnc and i will take the mu to talk to my other babbling gear, it will be easy for the mu to find new friends to talk to in my racks

see, the solution is often much easier than it looks

(of course just kidding)
yours,
mark

Killer vari-mu vocal setting:

compressor mode......Attack slowest....release fastest......threshold all the way up.......now just turn up the input knob until you get the golden glow......you may need to artificially increase the level of your input to hit the G spot.........the GR meters should be wiggling a tad........

Mine makes some very subtle audible noise when driven hard -

It's more fun to yell INTO it... Makes a very cool vocal effect if you normalize the track afterward!
