Opinions on the Gyraf Gyratec XIV?

Has anyone spent any quality time with one of these? What did you think of it?

Is the Gyratec VIII a completely different animal or just the mono version?

I'm currently checking out Pultec type eq's and haven't been able to come up with much by way of informed opinion on this unit, so opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Vari-Mu

Vari-Mu,

The Gyratec VIII (G8) is very different from the Gyratec XIV (G14), the G8 being an elaborated version of the pultec filter circuit, whereas the G14 is a parallel-passive architecture with linear makeup gain.

A serious drawback of the current G8 is the somewhat clumsy front panel/user interface - we're still working on getting that more intuitive in use. It works fine technically (and sound wise!) - but users often gets discouraged by the unusual way it works.

The G8 was aimed at recording - specially vocals, guitars and bass - where the G14 is a much more versatile unit, originally intended as an eq for mixbus or mastering purposes. This means that G14 has many more degrees of fine-tuning available..

I was also interested in the Model 14, especially since it shows to have linked-stereo controls. But can't get a price on it. The only dealer I could find was supposedly waiting to hear from Gyraf...

Any chance you'd post a dealer list Jakob? Or do you mostly sell direct?
