Command 8 or the old Mackie Hui....worth to buy?

I'm still looking for a controller...
Is the old Mackie Hui..still worth of buying?...even tho it's old?

Or the new Command 8?

What are the street prices of the Hui?

At this point if your just buying one I would stay away from the HUI. Mackie has stopped making it and I don't know what the repair situation is like. I have gone thru 6 different HUI's with problems since 1998 and although I got great results from them I was always plagued by bugs along the way.

I owned a Command 8 for 6 months and sold it to buy a Control 24. I can tell you that I had a problem with the first unit I got in that the faders had some sort of static/electrical bug in the unit. I don't think it was grounded properly. I called my dealer and Digi overnighted another to me and I had a replacement the next day. It worked perfect from the minute I pulled it out of the box.

The Monitor section on the Command 8 is much more limited than the HUI and I never plugged audio thru it so I have no idea how it sounded.

The HUI runs on MIDI and once I worked on USB and Ethernet it made the HUI seem like a slow hog. Also I noticed the fader resolution on the Command 8 was a million times more finite than the HUI ever was.

New the Command 8 should be around $1100.00 or so. Used HUI's might be had for $400-700 but I would still go with a new or under warranty Command 8.

Good Luck,

Why not the Mackie Control Universal? Great unit in that price range and plenty up to date.
