The API 5500 is pretty sweet. It's detented for recall and stereo matching, and has a .5 or .25 range for subtle tweaking. I love mine.

the API EQ is great... very musical, a bit harsh in the top... I mean not negative.. ah.. call it cute-brutality..

the A-designs hammer seems to be a great piece of gear.. I know who designed it.. good job

cheers

I like the API 5500 a lot, it is definitely the best mix buss tool API has ever made with the adjustable gain ranges, etc.

I actually use a pair of Avedis E27's on the stereo buss, which seems like the only EQ's I have used that can do that super high end boost like the 8200 (which is the only reason I would want an 8200 on the mix buss).

anything that gets the job done, or maybe nothing at all.

GML is a transparent, surgical box. Pultec is anything but transparent and is a broad strokes type of EQ. both are highly regarded for stereo buss duty, so again, depends what you're looking for.

if you're looking for something cheaper, there's alot of things out there. rupert neve EQ hasn't been mentioned here.

only heard it at AES but i was pretty impressed by the high and low end of the Arsenal Audio V14. don't know how it would work on stereo buss but it was great on kick. some nice EQs have been mentioned here but really speaking, audition some on your own before deciding.

I have owned both the Hammer and the API 5500 and I sold the Hammer. I don't find the 5500 harsh at all. I found the 3 bands of the Hammer a little bit limiting and the API was tighter in the lows.

Great River EQ2NV or MAQ2NV [I like the MAQ for the buss better]

API 5500

Manley Massive Passive or Langevin Mini Massive

Other options; A Pair or 9K SSL EQ's in a Mynx?

Sontec MEP-250EX. Like a GML but cheaper and much sweeter sounding (3k as opposed to god knows what the GML is). I also loved the Hammer when I had it, but I don't use 2 bus eq. (I save it for the ME).

I tried them and didn't like them on the mix buss. But, they can work well in many other situations when a clean EQ is needed.

I still prefer the E series EQ's.

NONE

(actually, not that surprised, this is GS after all)

If there's a problem, fix it at the source, no with an eq at the end.

Also, let the mastering engineer do his job.

Flip my suggestion into a Mynx with two 4K EQ's. Done.

so you've got a Duality but you're looking for a cheap EQ for the final mix?
