TV Monitor for what?

I have been wondering this for a while now, but i never heared anybody about it. And I have been avoiding the issue but now I can't avoid the question anymore.

Why do certain studio's have tv monitors hanging in their rooms?
What is the use of such? The only thing i can think of is as a video monitor for your effects or console. It won't be for your protools tho :D.

I hope someone can help me out here.

Here's an example:
Kenji Kawai's studio (ghost in the shell, the ring 1 & 2, avalon etc. )

cheers,

Well, in this photo the tv on the left is showing the display from the console's computer. Can't tell what's on the right. And why wouldn't it be for protools? They did used to make crt computer monitors you know.

If you don't have a window to have visual contact with the live room, you can set up a camera and view it via a monitor

Well yeah those seem like good options to me, but some studio's got that green retro information thing going on, like they are playing pong or something. See pic above, i'm just wondering what kind of information they would display on it.

I didn't know an SSL had a computer.. let alone a display,
i thought only Ams Neve had those kind of systems.
And this guy also works with protools. I feel too damn young for this thread :D, i'm 23, that's probably why i asked .. haha

....it's how the automation works. And you're far more likely to find one with an SSL than a Neve.

The other monitor is probably just a clone of the desk top - or an extender. Abbey Road have an old CRT for displaying the time code/bar counter for all to see in the rom.

Back in the day one monitor was for the SSL display and the other was for the porn.

My flat screen tv is my second monitor so I can have a dual monitor situation going on. Plus I can switch the inputs and watch tv or movies when I don't need it to work.
