If it's about microphones - probably the Didrik de Geer.

If it's about micros - maybe this!

Strange I sincerely hope that you don't think worlds most expensive microphone is going to be worlds best sounding microphone.. as there is no such thing.

is it some kind of marketing trick?

And wasn't there a thread about those polish microphones with wooden tweeter looking devices going for 10000 pound a piece?

might want to look into those?

Or maybe go to sotheby's and buy the microphone Elvis sang into or something of the kind, could cost you a lot as well.
And that was OLD iron as well, 40's/50's stuff that's when they were excavating a very nice layer of iron created by a very fine vintage stellar nucleosynthesis
way better than the stuff they use now it adds that good performance sound we all seek.

I had the pleasure of visiting Blackbird in Nashville, and was given a tour of the mic walk-in-closet.

There I was shown a Telefunken microphone (don't remember the model) of which, I was told, there was only produced one and that was to their knowledge the single most expensive mic in existence.

I have a weak recollection of the ballpark figure given to me as being $70.000 (this was in 2004)....but that may be my brain making stuff up...

I was then told that Telefunken North America had made one remake of this mic...."and that one we have right here!", he, Wolf, said and showed me. heh

In french language, they call a mic "micro". In Sweden we call it "mick", unless in it a Didrik De Geer mic, in which case we bow silently in awe.

And, from what I hear, he only builds them if he feels like it... ...which he rarely does. I have heard a but few recordings in my life where I thought the vocal sounded fantastic. Two of them were recorded with the De Geer - and the matching preamp he builds. At almost the same price...

When Vance Powell tried to hand me that mic on a visit to Blackbird, I refused to take it, fearing I'd drop it. I did handle C-12 serial number 1. Go figure.
