Manley DI's . . . Anybody use them?

I was just curious if anyone here uses the Manley direct boxes. They make a dual single space unit that I'm looking at. I just wanted to get someone's honest opinion as to whether or not it would be a good purchase.

Thanx.

Yeah, I've got a Manley DI...it's pretty good. The thing to be aware about it is that its meant to patch into a mic preamp. I find this to be a cool feature, as it lets you get the vibe of your preamps into your DI sound. I like mine into a Neve 1272..it's pretty fat sounding. I must confess that I never use the filters on the DI...

If you've got alot of cool preamps its a good buy, otherwise, something like the Avalon U5 might be better as it has built in amplification.

Cheers,

Kris

I am a HUGE fan of Manley stuff, but the DI is the one thing from them that undwhelms me. For tube DI, A design makes a great one or for a lot less money look at the sold state word like a Radial JDI

That was the first good D.I. I used repeatedly.

It was great, but now I swear by the BSS AR-133 DI
