Stereo Distressors vs Vari-Mu for Vocals

Is anyone using a pair of Distressors on a vocal bus?
And how do they compare to the Vari-Mu?

Also, if you had to pick one for each place, what would you use?
C2, Vari-Mu, Stereo Distressors

__________-Drum Bus
__________-Vocal Bus
__________-Mix Bus

Thanks...

If I had to stick them on each category,
I would go Distressors on Drum bus
Vari Mu on Vocal Bus
and C2 on Mix Bus

I KNOW I dont love the distressors on the mix bus. I haven't tried them enough on the vocal bus. I also haven't had distressors on the drum bus, but have had them on kick and snare individually with good success. I'm sure they would be find on drum bus.
I have had the VariMu on vocal bus, actually bgv's a lot, and it does the job just fine.
And the C2 does it job to glue and excite most songs over the mix bus.

I second that (as starting point... but nothing is gospel in recording)!

I think I'd go C-2 on the drum buss, Variable MU on the lead vocal(s), EL-8's if there is a backing vocal or whole vocal buss... and probably fold that buss back in a parallel manner... of course I've never heard the song, the arrangement, the singer, and have a little less than no idea what the question's author may be looking for on aesthetic level... but what the hell... I'm game to play the conjecture game.

if I owned a couple of distressors, I'd leave the knobs glued to the OPTO setting that's described in the user manual. There's magic in that box, especially on BASS DI

C2 or Vari-MU on mix.

C2 or Vari-MU on drums.

Neither of the above on vocals.

^^^None on the Vocals?

What do you like for Vox?

I'm mixing with compression on the mix bus on for the first time,
and I just don't want to over compress the drums. If I run distressors on
the Kick and Snare, then run all the drums to a drum bus with the C2 on it.
Then run the Vari-Mu across the mix, is that too much? Should I do away with
the C2 on the Drum Bus?

I'm not mixing it until next week, but I am asking all these questions,
because I wnat to sort out the chain in my head so I can set up the
gear right the first time. This is a temporary mixning location, and
I jsut don't want to spend 2 days moving cables and stuff.

It's an Urban R&B-HipHop track, heavy on the drums.

BTW - Thanks for all the replies so far.

Distressors are sweet on a drum bus, that's for sure. Nonetheless, they're also great on the vocal bus. And the Vari-Mu would probably be great on all three. I guess it depends on what you're going for.

In that case, compress the two mix with the Vari-Mu.

My vote (not that anyone cares)

Mix Bus: Vari-Mu
Vocal Bus: Distressors
Drum Bus: C2 (most guys who have these love them on the Drum Bus)
