Distressors EL8

Hello everybody,

Im thinking of buying a couple of Distressors EL8 with consecutive serial numbers.
Would it be a problem when using them in stereo mode?
I know you have to link them using a couple of TRS cables at the back but what would be the difference in using a couple of EL8 ( with link cables connected ) in stereo or a couple of EL8XS with stereo link function at the front?

Im a bit confused as both of them ( EL8 and EL8XS ) have link option at the back for stereo operation but the EL8X has this extra feature called stereo link which you can engaged or disengaged manually.

Thanks!

Hi,

the "EL8XS" is the later revision.

It's got an improved Stereo-Link mode and a "british" compression mode (like 1176)

See product description for further details.

If it's really sound "better"? Don't know since I've only got the old one...

cheers,

jansens

The stereo link definitely helps. Even if you just A/B it off and on there is a difference. Makes things clearer/punchier IMO.

I mixed a track tonight and ran about 10 different signals through these things.

They pretty much rock my socks off....

I know that the link cables at the back basically keeps the two units in phase when using in stereo mode.

But my question is :

Does the stereo link option at the front something to do with the compressor detector when analysing the signal using two distressors?, so both L and R signal are compressed equally?

Thanks again!
