Compressors preffered for tracking, but not for mixing...?

I sometimes hear people at GS say they prefer a certain compressor for tracking, but not for mixing. How's that? For example, I love tracking with my Manley ELOPs in the chain, but I certainly can use em very good during mixing those recordings also. Just curious
