What is a good reference site or book for building a studio. i am only in the porcess now of puttin gear together for my first digital home studio which will just be in my basement for a while but hope to build a "shop" in the back yard someday for my band to jam in and for recording (my Dad says "shops" are for building cars (he rebuilds classics), so he can't believe I would build a "shop" for something else .

But want to know the theories on designs for control rooms etc. early before I start doing it. It may help me in design the room I will use in my basement too.

By the way, i shorted out my keyboard from all the drool after viewing the pics on this thread. Don't even know what some of the stuff was I was looking at, but it had blinky lights. Someday.

I moved to a new location 2 days ago - not quite finished yet (and never will...)!
It's in the centre of Oslo, with a lovely view (8th floor)!

Thanks!
It's a Crumar Bit 01 and sounds a bit like a Juno1/2.

Here's a pic of mine. Since I'm losing my space, I'd imagine that I'll be taking a sawzall to it sooner than later...time to rebuild somewhere else.

it´s a long story...when I arrived at the studio the installation was completed but there was only 24 E channels, as I said without computer ...The patch was wrong, some channels didn´t work, so a nightmare. There was problem with the warranty and installation. it´s a 4000 G frame with E channels but I contacted with an excelent brithish maintenance engineer and friend of mine now he rescued the desk and we installed 8 G series channels. To make history short. he couldn´t believe status of the desk altought all he did was excellent, remember as you said we talked about a pieced desk plus some video funcions unknow maybe a custom option but as we don´t have the computer...you know .The desk was bought in london but it came from japan so I searched near one year and a half to find an engineer to be able to put in good condition as it´s now. If anyone wants details about the man I´ll be glad to send contact information, he worked 15 years on SSL and he´s freelance now.

I was thinking the same: Must be George.

I actually remember that he told me once that he has to go to Spain to fix a desk 1.5 years ago.

George was the man who installed and suggested the desk to the boss Thats´s all I know because I didn´t have the pleasure to know him personally just by phone but he wasn´t the guy who made it work at the end . Today is still OK, george is the guy in spain but I found another one. Even so the desk had a good amount of work impossible to finish on a visit of 3 days, there was missing pieces etc...I had to make an in depth check with Another engineer prior to contacting the final man, I have just to say that one of the maintenance engineers is spanish even he specialise more in neve consoles and installation studio work.

So George Gilbert is the guy who installed the console, but it was not right? George comes highly reguarded from more than a couple guys. Was the desk bought from a broker? Who made it work in the end? Did SSL in Spain help you any?

nobtwiddler , nice woodwork ;-)

it´s the first time I actually see a TLA VTC installed !!!
ever since it came out I wondered what it´s like ???
have seen it only on a sting dvd before...

I´m curious about this, because people have been bashin the (cheaper) TLA stuff pretty much around here..... I only worked with a M3 once, but that was used as sub for mpc´s and other synths...liked it, though....

so HOW YA LIKE IT ???

it´s pretty much in it´s own price range, no ghost and no ssl...inbetween, so what ya think about it´s price?? worth it, a steal...too much ??

thanx tom

Here's Megasonic before selling off some of the stuff (passive, pendulum) + before I have to pack up and move!
The room is an old bank vault. All cement walls- I won't miss that.
I may have GREAT news in a week- keep yer slutty fingers crossed.

Best piece of gear? - A good room to work in.

I didn´t say that the desk wasn´t well installed, I had the desk installed when I arrived but because of differences not needed to comment here I had to check some minor faults that were not so minor if you understand. The desk was bought from AES proaudio (london) as suggestion of george and supposely prechecked by him. We even upgraded with 8 extra G series channels before comming here but I found a crack spanish guy from FX rentals even so we called a brithish engineer because of parts etc...and He was very surprised with the status of the desk. The important is that it´s working OK!!! even withouth computer it makes sound you good!.

cheers
