Brand new Otari MX 80

Hi
I have the chance of getting hold of a brand new Otari MX 80 24 Track recorder in unopened box.
How much you think I should pay for it?
Thanks

You can buy those used for $1500. So, I would add the cost of new heads and then deduct tech time to go through it the same as if it were used. Rubber parts dry out in storage too.

Hey Ozinga.

You don't say where your from so I'll just say that MX80's cost ALOT more than $1500 outside the US. In fact, I don't think I've even seen a decent US one go for less than $2500, but then I've not been looking for a while!

However, I would certainly back up PDC's comments on budgeting for spares.

Personally, I like these machines. Rugged and reliable in my experience, even if they don't sound as great as a Studer. Then again, a brand new Studer will cost you in excess of $20,000 so there isn't really a comparison.

Get a tech to check it out and let us know what you do!
