CAN MY LA2A BE USED AS A PRE?

I have an Neumann M149, Avalon 737sp and a LA2A. I was wondering if could use the LA2A as sort of a mic pre before hitting my DAW. Any opinions? Or should I just use the Avalon as a mic pre and the LA2A to compress my voals in the mix which I am currently doing.

Try this- Plug the mic into it and if you have enough gain then the answer is yes. It certainly works with my RCA BA-86 compressor. Just wondering- Is there some reason why you wouldnt simply try it?

I've tried before but most threads I've read seem to use it in the mix instead of the recording process. I guess there's no rules to recording huh!

By "tried it before" I meant I tried it in the past not "tried it one time"! I was just triying to get opinions on the M149 and LA2A combination vs. the M149 and the Avalon 737sp as a vocal chain before hitting the DAW.

I know this is an old thread, but I saw it pop up in related threads. I'm wondering:

How did this work out for you??

Yes it'll work.. but don't expect as much low end as if you had a preamp.. you may like it though. This falls under the category - "It's not technically correct, but it'll work". Good thing there are no rules for recording.
