Langevin AM4 Mixer/mic pres... should I pounce? Multi-Channel Preamps
Old 24th February 2018

Here for the gear

The AM16 is great, probably among the top 10 ever. One flaw, the heatsinks on the transistors.
These babies get hot, with the possiblility to fail, shorten and burn the windings.
Easy fixed with a “pianissimo” brushless DC fan.
Just a minor airflow does the trick.
As to the transformers, with the Nickel/Cobalt/Iron mix in their core they ‘make’ the sound through their flaws in linearity when it comes to harmonics and that is the sound we became to like as fat, punchy and warm.
