i have had my 3124 for 3 years now without a single issue.

FWIW, even though I find the API quite good and versatile, it's still lacking a bit of that magic the SSL/Smart provides for me. rollz

I keep expecting to read comments about the Thrust circuit, especially in the context of punch being similar to the Smart. I think slipperman mentioned it in passing once, but when I talked to someone at API a long time ago, they were expecting Thrust to be one of the major draws to this box. Comments on Thrust? Does it punch things up or tighten the low end? Both?

Thrust is a built in sidechain EQ.
The LOUD thrust is a 20dB drop at 20Hz and a 20dB boost
at 20K, like a straight line going uphill.
The other question is: what do I mean with "punch" in the sense of the word. Maybe a better word for the Smart is "smackier".
Maybe for the API guys punchier means more bass, more balls ???
Its hard to find the right words, so better rent one and listen by yourself...

all the best, kosi

and ****, I thinks I have the only API with bad knobsevileye

I have to say that I played around with one for about 20 minutes this morning and I agree with what people are saying about the SSL/Smart being "thwackier" or whatever. I really liked what the API did for the guitars, though I did mess with the detector switches. I didn't have time to mess with the thrust, and left it on normal.

Don't worry, I've used a couple and they ALL had bad knobs... tut

FWIW, I don't find the "thrust" circuit to be anything to write home about. Most of the time I prefer it set to "normal" (off). The variable stereo link feature on the other hand can be really cool, for drums submixes for example. Also great is the automatic gain make-up function which is useful for quickly comparing different settings at (relatively) the same level.

As I said, a very good unit but I'll keep my saving my $$$ for a Smart.

Cheers!
