Ebay Alert-Manley SLAM

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ADME:B:SS:US:1

I believe the above auction to be fraudulent for several reasons.

-Seller has no transaction history
-Seller joined Ebay the day the auction started
-Seller wants Western Union payment only
-Seller is using MY picture to advertise the unit
-Seller has claimed in a email to a purchaser to be ME (Lynn Fuston)
-Seller has hotmail address
-Short (3-day) auction
-No reserve or starting bid listed on a $9000 piece of gear
-The serial number advertised does not exist

EveAnna Manley concurs that it appears to be totally fraudulent. I have contacted ebay about having it pulled.

Thanks to my friends

It's nice to have friends. I just got back from a week at the beach and five people at 3dB had notified me of it within the first day it showed up. If not for their attentiveness, I might never have known. Hopefully this will save someone money and a lot of grief.

As well as preserving my reputation.

Check out the bidding history.

Bogus_manley_don't_bid has just been passed by Audio_Buster at GBP 1,380.00! Would be funny if it was a legitimate auction and they had to buy it or face letting a zero history fake account get a negative feedback rating

I thought about signing up as "im_not_lynn_fuston" and bidding that way. I'll just let those other two duke it out. Until ebay pulls the plug.

Not to worry. "BOGUS_Manley_DONT_BID" is me. If you see that userid show up on a Manley auction, uhm, well, you should heed my blatant advice. This is not the first time this crap has happened.

FYI, Brad retracted his Audio_Buster bid so that my userid would convey the intended message a little better. I even made a nice "About Me" page just in case there are still some seriously dense people still wanting a mastering SLAM! for eight hundred bucks...

For more info, please read:

And protect yerseff from:

This has been a public service announcement.

An "error?"

Due to an "error" in the auction, the seller has relisted the same Manley Mastering SLAM with the same identical info, only this time without my picture. Don't be fooled.

It is the same seller with all the same issues.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3747208748

I considered sending him a link to my page with all the discrepancies that have been pointed out, but that would be like showing the bank robber the combination to the safe, so EA and I will continue other avenues.

The strange thing is that Ebay has yet to respond or shut it down.

That GML auction looks swell too!

GML 2020

"i can assure you that i am not out to scam you."

"Once a card payment has been received the item will be posted by via first class mail, with delivery costs covered at my end."

Cool! Free shipping by first class mail! And no power supply! But you get a manual!

I posted a request for him to post a serial number. Let's see...

My understanding is that if you approach them as a representative of the manufacturer (which I imagine you'd qualify as, EveAnna...) and they have any stock photos or text directly from the manual, advertisements, or website (all of which falls under copyright), they will pull the plug very quickly...

Hasn't happened.

You'd think that a name/likeness violation would be the same. No response on that one either.

I wrote numerous letters to ebay yesterday through eBay's SafeHarbor Department, Community Watch, et al, yes, I even submitted "Notice of Claimed Infringement" letters through the VeRo program (yes, I am a member) about the SLAMmer-Scammer to no avail. I even *faxed* a VeRo letter to them. Several other people also wrote to ebay about that auction. And yet it did not get pulled. The guy relisted. Wrote more letters. Still up.

Audio_Buster and BOGUS_Manley_DONT_BID have both tried twarting the auctions.

I have my eBay Warning page up on my site.

There's been good anti fraud links posted on all these boards where we all hang out.

I know since last year when I put up the eBay fraud warning page on my website, most legit folks listing Manley gear on ebay have been posting their serial numbers and actual pictures of the unit on their auctions, following my advice. Potential bidders email me looking for verification and I always am happy to reply and do. I know that we have helped folks with that page.

Somebody's gotta be "real dum" now to try to "win" these obviously scammy auctions.

We all have done EVERYTHING to stop this particular guy and inform all our pro gear pals about this type of thing on all these boards. Hopefully general awareness has been raised. Now at this point, I have done everything I can do and I gotta get back to attending to building more gear and running my factory as this thing has eaten up a ton of my time in the last 30 hours or so.........

Now everyone should know about...

I recently eBayed my Manley VariMu (for financial reasons, very hard to let such an incredible compressor go). It took a couple tries to get my price, and after each auction there was somebody from England claiming to be my "associate", offering to sell the VariMu at a greatly reduced price to the higher bidders in my auction. Sounds a lot like the guy in these current SLAM scams. Even the wording is somewhat similar.

There was also someone else though too, I'm pretty sure it was more than one person trying pull a fast one on my bidders. eBay really has to get this under control, because it is undermining their whole system. If it keeps up, it won't be long before people's trust is so low they will find other ways to buy and sell gear.
