Thats a vintage white 550a.
I have a hodgepodge of vintage ,handwired reissues and the current ones in there.

Do you consider them interchangeable or do you hear differences between the different 550a versions?

I consider them interchangable
The newer PCB versions sound great, are cheaper and have extra eq pointsthumbsup

RB - Have you been mixing on the 1608, or mainly tracking? If mixing, how do you like it so far?

Here for the gear

Few days of mixing with tha 1608
Acoustic Pianos, strings and marimbas...
Not rock'n roll at all but I can hear the desk is quit.

550A's with extra frequencies compared to the vintage ones.

I am using a Grace Design M906 and a Lavry AD gold for monitoring so I can't tell you how is the monitoring section of that desk.

Did not have that time to fully test the possibilities of the desk as my config and my studio are new and a lot of things need to be settled before any deep tests...between every day sessions.

I've never enjoyed such a pixelated picture so much. Except internet porn in the 90's

Here for the gear

here are some more pics.
Every thing is not setup as you can see. but it s starting to look like a studio

Weird config as the desk is on my left as I wished: center piece is protools and pyramix and other analog gears.

Clients are happy with the sound of the desk and up to know I am too
the API and all the studio is cabled with starquad equivalent everywhere it was possible.

RoundBadge, how are you using your API/Tonluxe setup?
Are you tracking with both setups?

The Tonelux rig moves around from my home to the main studio.it only has one pre which in mixer standalone mode serves well for quick overdubs
I already have access to a bunch of outboard preamps[Helios,Neve,Telefunken,Daking,Chandler]and all the console ones.way overkill.
People rent it and really dig it..but I'm starting to get more possessive with it.

At the main studio it serves as a sidecar to an old Neve.
Currently its married to the API.
the API is a great little tracking rig.quieter busses/more headroom than the old ones
Can't tell you how stoked I am with this combo.
And unlike the old stuff..every switch, pot, fader, button, light, meter, etc, works flawlessly!
A really big deal for me..especially after working on older stuff where you suddenly lose a channel/buss mid session, having to tap a module or fvck with some ancient noisy pot/fader to get it back=vibe kill
The whole setup is rock solid/super compact/effortless to use and I'm blown away at how good it sounds.
Both mixers=tons of headroom, super quiet/lower noise floor than the older Neves/API's I've used.
