Amek 9098 comp and DMCL

Hi guys,

They are selling these off discounted at the moment(US$800 cheaper) and the slut in me is thinking about one.
There both around the same $$. with the digi option the DMCL is a bit more $$ or cheaper without.

So what would people say the diffs are:
The pres would be handy but the comp is teh main concern.

Skip the comp, its a beast to work with(it works though on Bck Vocals). It sounds nothing like the Neve comps.

The DMCL is a different beast. The preamps are killer and the comp section is decent/good at best. The pres are better than the ones in the 9098EQ.

I much prefer to have (2) CIB's.
(Pre-EQ-comp).

I'd have to agree,

The 9098 is a dog of a compressor to set up and get sounding great. Mind you I'm speaking in a mastering context. A Neve it ain't. I once used to think Amek and Neve were in the same league and even stupidly the same thing, except for the different labelling.....boy was I wrong!! Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's worth having in the rack for the sake of it.

Cheers,

Tony Mantz.

$800 or $800 less? Where do you usually get your Amek gear from?

Hey e-cue less in AUD$'s
DMCL $3,900 compared $6,200 rrp or $5,400 street
9098 $4,400 compared with around $5,700 street.

Yeah I like things cheaper, do not know if I need the xtra pre's
although I could sell my 9098 DMA or UA 2-610 and replace them with it.

Might see if I can borrow it for a day, although I always end up buying them. The DMCL would be my first choice.

Hey Jack,
Yeah would love a tracker or STC-8, just around AUD$3,000 difference so almost double. a Distressor is around AUD$600 less then the dual DMCL

I'm with Mike . . if you can get the compressor for 800 or less . . . that is one hell of a deal. It is not going to replace a STC-8 but it sure would have it's place for other things . . .especially at that price.

unfortunately as a owner of a 9098 comp/lim I have to agree. Can't even remember using it. My partner Marc likes it though.

Hey Dave,

Is it ATT who are selling at those prices or another dealer?

Yeah ATT, not a bad price, although no one seems to like the 9098 comp, nowhere on RAP etc too. The DMCL looks cool was not on my too buy list so I do not think so, unless I can off load the 9098 DMA or UA and upgraded it but its a pain in the ass re-selling. Brought a PCM91 a few months back and just not using it have had it up for sale for the last month.

On my I would like to buy list really is:
Sony comp (when released)
Outboard stereo EQ.

The things I would like but will be good even if they keep extending my visa credit.
A pair of trackers or a STC8
Royer SF12.
Spider.

Who and where is ATT? Do they sell in the US. I'd really like to get hold of some of that gear for those prices.

I think people keep reading my post wrong, I said around US$800 less then normal. Not $800. so they are still around US$1,800.

Probably give it a miss, an outboard eq is needed more.
