Ribbon mic ok with Seventh Circle N72? Ribbon Microphones

Ribbon mic ok with Seventh Circle N72?

The N72 is 1200 ohms input impedance. I was looking at the AEA R84 and wondering if it would match well. The N72 has plenty of gain at 70dB, but wondering also how it would sound when pushed that hard with the R84...

No luck for me with a royer r121 and that mic pre. I have the mic out to royer just incase it's the mic.

What do you mean "no luck"?

Noise issue?

No signal issue?

What?

While I'm not intimately familiar with the 7th Circle the fact of the matter is that pretty much any pre with 70db of clean gain will work just fine and dandy with damn near any ribbon mic ever built... as long as the amp really does have 70db of clean gain... so do, some don't even though it may say it on the nomenclature.

Peace.

I use my R121 with my N72's all the time. They are a great pair. What kind of problems are you having? You didn't plug it in with phantom power on did you?

Mine has been unusably noisy with every mic pre I've used except one.

Maybe a power issue?

I've had no problem with a Royer 121, RCA 74B, or RCA 77DX in my N72. If you have your N72 right next to the power supply and made your own power cable, that might be the problem. He now makes a full power harness with a large ferrite core which helps bring the noise down.

Up to +50dB the N72 is great, but take her to +70dB and she starts doing unNevish like things. Still sounds good but just don't expect the same vibe at that level. Sorry no ribbon mics here. Ribbons are for piss-poor acoustic guitars and people who have no mojo in their voice.... Ooops did I say that?
