gml 8900 serie II/III what's the difference ?

Hi everybody,
I'm about to buy a gml 8900 at good price. The seller told me the unit is a 8900 serie II.
Is anybody know the difference between II and III series ?
Thanks

Jerome

... just received the answert from Jeffrey Warren about my question :
"Hello Jerome,
Thanks for contacting me -- just back in the office following the
Labor Day weekend.

Although the overarching design principles are the same for both
Series, there are significant differences. Whereas the Series III
offers two RMS detectors, the Series II presented only one. This
also precludes a second Crest Factor control for the Series II. The
Soft Knee mode of operation was not yet realized in the Series II,
which instead featured a hard-knee compressor with user-defined ratio
and an independent limiter. Most notably, the Series II had
unbalanced inputs and no sidechain input. Further, the audio path
was based on an early dBx VCA, replaced in the Series III by our own
discrete VCA.

Naturally, the overall build of the Model 8900 developed greatly
between production releases. The Series III control circuitry takes
full advantage of SMD component technology (one of the first audio
devices to pioneer this field) and the lessons learned from years of
limited manufacturing. Improvements and tweaks were also made to
enhance the accuracy, serviceability and overall stability of the
control topology.

All this being said, some users prefer one Series over the other for
whatever their personal reasons.

Best regards,
Jeff"

... for those who want to know.
Finally quite a lot of difference between them ...
