audio interface for archival work

I am about to begin an archival project in West Africa and am trying to decide on what audio interface to purchase. I am looking in the $1500 and below range and only need 2 channels. I will be running Peak on a new MacBook Pro. Any recommendations?

Korg MR-1000. Has a nice mic preamp. Just record everything in the DSD format (highest at 5.6Mhz) and you're all set.

There is a discussion over the New Product Alert forum, with some very valuable informationi about the MR-1000 and the DSD format. Do check it out.
