Pacifica but what comp?

Hi,

I'm mainly recording R&B, pop and hiphop and have been looking to get a Adesigns Pacifica preamp. I have been tracking mainly through a 1176 lately.
I was wondering what comp would be a good companion for this pre?

Well I'm still gonna keep it. Just to have some other sonic flavor. ;-)

1176 is deffinately a good place to start with compressing vocals. Maybe if your thinking of getting another compressor you should perhapps get something more flexible that can also work on the mixbus.

Manley Vari-Mu
Thermionic Phoenix
Cranesong STC-8

Maybe you should tell us what other compressors you have.

I'm a huge fan of the Pacifica and, in my limited experience,

The Purple MC77 (1176 clone) works with the Pacifica best of all the compressors I've tried. It does bring the signal a bit more forward, but doesn't mess with the quality of the sound.

Surprisingly, the LA-3A isn't bad either, if you don't mind the aggressive character it adds.

The Distressor and the Trakker were party poopers with this particular pre; mis-matched and non-complementary.

Pacifica & MC77 are the goto vocal line here. Sometimes use the Great River ME-1NV with the Purple for a slight change of flavor.

I have had the same question here after buying a Pacifica.
I´ve tried a 1176, a LA3A and and a Tub Tech CL1B. Difficult decision but the CL1B stayed. I am quite sure however that I will add a 1176 or a Purple later on.
